Phillip Alexander Downie Added to MoCo Pride Center Board of Directors


The Board of Directors of the MoCo Pride Center announced today that Phillip Alexander Downie is its newest member of the Board. Philip is a non-profit and small business development professional with a diverse history of fundraising through relationship development and special events. As the Director of Special Events and Facility Rentals at Sandy Spring Museum, he produces and supervises over 200 annual museum programs, special events, and facility rentals.

Phillip is also the Managing Partner & CEO of One Source Event Group, LLC. In this role, he is the creative visionary and director of all organizational programs and partner resources. Prior to the creation of One Source Event Group, Phillip was a state campaign manager and fundraiser and has over 15 years of experience in the special events industry. He is the Operations Director of Gourmet Delights by Diane, a family-owned gourmet pastry and desserts catering company.

Phillip works with a number of non-profit and social justice organizations. As a public advocate for social justice, he is passionate about LGBTQIA advocacy, access to healthcare, and healthcare policy issues. Phillip has a B.A. in Health Administration and Public Policy, and is the Founder of the Queer Student Lounge at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

“We are very excited to have Phillip join us as a Board member,” says Ezra Towne, Board of Directors chairperson, “Phillip's fundraising and events management experience, strategic vision, and enthusiasm are invaluable assets to MoCo Pride Center.” With this latest addition, the current Board of Directors is now up to a total of five members of the nine-member Board.

Additionally, Center visionary, Rev. Dr. Jill McCrory, has moved to member-at-large after her year of service as founding co-chair. Ezra Towne will remain chairperson serving out the remainder of their term. Downie joins the Board as Treasurer. The Board of Directors is still actively accepting Board member applications for anyone interested in joining. Applications can be found on the organization’s website.

Established in 2017, the MoCo Pride Center is a 501(c)3 organization designed to serve the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community and its allies in Montgomery County, Maryland. We strive to be the leading organization for LGBTQ resources and advocacy in our county. Our mission is to organize, support, educate, and provide outreach to the LGBTQ community and its allies.

  • Promote dignity and respect for all individuals;

  • Encourage authenticity and honesty in self-expression;

  • Connect community members and create a network of support for youth, adults, and families;

  • Organize and engage the LGBTQ community and our allies to build a movement to advance the rights, dignity and respect of all members of our community
