Montgomery County, February 21, 2023 - MoCo Pride Center has announced the date for the 2023 MoCo Pride Prom as Friday, May 12, 2023.
The MoCo Pride Prom is open to high school-aged and community college students in the local area who want to proudly attend prom, dress however they are most comfortable, and dance - without fear - with whomever they choose. The evening will consist of a live DJ spinning popular music, along with giveaways, a raffle and local catering – all at a nominal ticket price. The event is funded through efforts from direct donations, fundraising, and corporate sponsorships.
Starting in 2016 with modest beginnings, the MoCo Pride Prom is now an event the local students look forward to each year. Janine Rauscher, MoCo Pride Prom Committee Chair, created the event because the youth in Montgomery County needed an alternative to the typical proms held by the high schools in the county. These types of proms were being held in Northern Virginia and also in Baltimore, but nothing near Montgomery County. Her child at the time attended one of the local high schools and was an inspiration for making the MoCo Pride Prom come to life. "We started this event on a shoestring budget, with most of the financial support coming from a small few, even my own," says Rauscher, "but I believed in what we were doing and knew we just needed to get it up and running and then others would join in support."
Details about ticket prices and where to purchase will be announced in the coming weeks. For inquires, please email hello@mocopridecenter.org
